Happy New Year!

Sydney fireworks 2013Looking back over 2017, I notice a vague sense of unease. Have I achieved enough? What could I have done that would have made this year more successful? How can I look ahead at 2018 with an increased level of optimism?

I’m sure many of you will feel the same. For me, I believe that unease is caused by not having achieved enough in my writing. I took on extra days at work and added responsibility which led to reduced writing time. I fell victim to procrastination so that even when I did have time, I didn’t write enough. Even when I knew I was falling into this trap, I found it difficult to drag myself out.

So in 2018, I will write more and procrastinate less. I will get two new books out to my readers. One is written and one half written so that shouldn’t be too difficult. I will start the next book. I will  market all my titles. By the end of 2018, I will be earning enough from my books to support my writing ‘habit’.

At this time, I believe it’s important to focus on the positives from the year. All my family is happy and healthy. Michael and I bought an apartment which means no more dead money. Sam turned 21 and we enjoyed a celebration with our friends. Sam and Tom went overseas for the English cricket season, Tom scoring 1000 runs! They returned safely. Our family grew closer, along with extended family and friends.

the-lady-and-the-pirate-webcover-finalI published The Lady and the Pirate and have had some encouraging reviews. I joined three new writers groups which I’m sure will be a great support in future. Michael had his gall bladder out, bringing to an end a year of hell(2016). He, Sam and James began working on a farm which might lead to all sorts of opportunities in the future. James got a job offer from the Defence Force and 2018 should see him enter that organisation.

What are your regrets from 2017 and what will you do to rid yourself of them in 2018? Will you make that doctor’s appointment, apply for that job, take the plunge with a mortgage or even start writing that book you always promised yourself? Will you start studying, travel overseas, de-clutter your home or start a family? Will you take a chance on love? Will you commit to reading 50 books and leaving reviews for the authors?

36794-095Whatever you decide you will do, take action now. Don’t let this special new beginning be wasted. I’m going to make 2018 a big year for my writing. No regrets in 2018- let that be our mantra- no regrets in 2018.

Until next year

2016! Happy New Year!

0515 The Elf King's Lady_Final2015 was a huge year for me. No wonder it seems to have flown past. I published four books and just 2 days ago I completed the first draft of The Lady and the Pirate. I can’t wait to share more stories with you in 2016 and am hoping for at least three releases.

Estelle Aranati 1Personally, I lost my mother-in-law which was a huge blow for the entire Rowley family. I’ve named my heroine in the Lady and the Pirate after her in the hope that she will live on in that character. Perhaps Estelle will get to do some of the things Esther never could.

The Lord and the Mermaid coverMy youngest graduated from high school and now faces a bachelor degree at the University of Queensland where I studied many years ago. We moved to Brisbane from Townsville after a sojourn of nine years. Life seems to be coming full circle in many ways.

In 2015 there have been good times and bad, plenty of cricket, laughs and tragedies and more cricket.

The Lady's Choice Cover- newI love this time when we stand at the start of a new year and I’m always filled with optimism. I hope this year brings you more good than bad and a chance to change anything about your life that needs changing.

Princess Avenger Ebook coverFor me, I’m going to embrace 2016 and look forward to a year of discovering new characters, new friends and old and making the most of this life I’ve been granted.

2015- Dream Big!

FireworksHappy New Year! I love this time of the year. It holds so much promise that I can’t help feeling hopeful.

We can finally take a breather after the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. The pressure is off for a short while and we are able to look ahead and imagine how we might change our lives.

Is there something you’ve wanted to achieve for a long time? Is there a talent you’ve never fully explored? Do you want to be fitter, happier, wealthier, less stressed, less busy? Do you want to find the love of your life? Would you like to explore your country or travel overseas?

The New Year is a great time to review the previous year, discover what worked in 2014 and what needs improvement. There’s never been a better time to create your goals for the year ahead and your plan for achieving them.

The term ‘New Year resolutions’ is thrown about so casually but when you look at the definition of ‘resolution’ it means  resolve,  determination, steadfastness, tenacity, perseverance, purpose.

In 2015, let’s keep this definition firmly in focus, set achievable goals, plan for them and tackle them with determination and perseverance. What are your goals for 2015? Please share them with me here…
