Happy New Year!

Sydney fireworks 2013Looking back over 2017, I notice a vague sense of unease. Have I achieved enough? What could I have done that would have made this year more successful? How can I look ahead at 2018 with an increased level of optimism?

I’m sure many of you will feel the same. For me, I believe that unease is caused by not having achieved enough in my writing. I took on extra days at work and added responsibility which led to reduced writing time. I fell victim to procrastination so that even when I did have time, I didn’t write enough. Even when I knew I was falling into this trap, I found it difficult to drag myself out.

So in 2018, I will write more and procrastinate less. I will get two new books out to my readers. One is written and one half written so that shouldn’t be too difficult. I will start the next book. I will  market all my titles. By the end of 2018, I will be earning enough from my books to support my writing ‘habit’.

At this time, I believe it’s important to focus on the positives from the year. All my family is happy and healthy. Michael and I bought an apartment which means no more dead money. Sam turned 21 and we enjoyed a celebration with our friends. Sam and Tom went overseas for the English cricket season, Tom scoring 1000 runs! They returned safely. Our family grew closer, along with extended family and friends.

the-lady-and-the-pirate-webcover-finalI published The Lady and the Pirate and have had some encouraging reviews. I joined three new writers groups which I’m sure will be a great support in future. Michael had his gall bladder out, bringing to an end a year of hell(2016). He, Sam and James began working on a farm which might lead to all sorts of opportunities in the future. James got a job offer from the Defence Force and 2018 should see him enter that organisation.

What are your regrets from 2017 and what will you do to rid yourself of them in 2018? Will you make that doctor’s appointment, apply for that job, take the plunge with a mortgage or even start writing that book you always promised yourself? Will you start studying, travel overseas, de-clutter your home or start a family? Will you take a chance on love? Will you commit to reading 50 books and leaving reviews for the authors?

36794-095Whatever you decide you will do, take action now. Don’t let this special new beginning be wasted. I’m going to make 2018 a big year for my writing. No regrets in 2018- let that be our mantra- no regrets in 2018.

Until next year

Release Day- The Lady and the Pirate

the-lady-and-the-pirate-webcover-finalIt’s finally here- the long awaited release of The Lady and the Pirate, book 3 of the Wildecoast Saga. Featuring pirate Samael Delacost and Lady Esta Aranati, otherwise known as Lady Moonlight. These two are made for each other but it takes a long time and some personal revelations before either of them will admit it.

Samael Delcost 1Samael roams the seas with his dark elven crew, pirating and making himself rich on the hard work of other folk. But there is a secret in his past which sends him on a collision course with Admiral Nikolas Cosara. We met Nikolas in The Lord and the Mermaid so it’s great to see him and his beautiful wife Merielle back in Wildecoast 3.

Estelle Aranati 1Lady Moonlight seeks to prop up her impoverished estate by smuggling in her spare time. Her ship is her connection to her dead father and her only means of escape from her obligations to her people. Combine that  with a younger sister who has magic in her armory and you have the recipe for some fireworks.

This is a rollicking yarn with two new characters in a familiar setting, Wildecoast and the country and oceans around the King’s seat. Look out for the next book in the series where we will get to know Esta’s sister Katrine a little better.

Happy reading.

The Lady and the Pirate- Pre-orders Open!

the-lady-and-the-pirate-webcover-finalWow, it’s been some ride over the last five years. I took a moment today to reflect on all the milestones I’ve ticked off with my writing over that period.

There was that exciting call, in March 2012, from Carol George of Penguin, with my first publishing offer for Princess Avenger. I made a trip to  the Romance Writers of Australia conference on the Gold Coast where the Destiny imprint authors shot a video, launched the imprint and had our author shots taken. It was a massive weekend and none of us could know how the next few years would unfold.

Princess Avenger Ebook coverThe next year Penguin released The Lady’s Choice, the second book in this fantasy romance series that I am absolutely hooked on writing. I decided I wanted to write a love story featuring a mermaid but when that was rejected I had a big decision to make. Find another publisher (if I could) or venture into the scary and unknown world of self-publishing.

At the time I just didn’t have enough confidence to step onto the self-publishing pathway and so I pitched The Lord and the Mermaid to Momentum (Pan Macmillan). Hayley Nash loved it and offered me a two book contract as long as we began Momentum’s own mini series. The Wildecoast Saga was born. The covers were amazing and I had The Lord and the Mermaid and The Elf King’s Lady both released in 2015.

The Lord and the Mermaid coverI began writing the book that I will release on the 14th of February- The Lady and the Pirate. I loved the freedom that came with having a pirate and a smuggler butt heads, not to mention the intrigue of a member of the aristocracy carrying on an illegal operation in a man’s world. Alas, hard times had fallen on the ebook publishing industry and Momentum didn’t want my story.

I had already begun self-publishing with the titles that were returned to me from Penguin, and added to my stable with Princess in Exile, the sequel to Princess Avenger, so I was keen to expand yet again.

36794-095On Valentine’s Day, February 14th 2017, I will publish The Lady and the Pirate on Smashwords and Amazon. It is now ready for pre-order at your favorite ebook retailer and will soon be available in print.

Cover Reveal- The Lady and the Pirate

I’m delighted to reveal to you today, my cover for The Lady and the Pirate, available on Valentine’s Day 2017. This book has been a labour of love during 2016 and I hope you enjoy it.

The Lady and the Pirate is the third book in The Wildecoast Saga, set in and around the King’s seat of Wildecoast in the kingdom of Thorius- my fantasy kingdom.

Lady Esta Aranati, burdened by an impoverished estate, has turned her hand to smuggling.  She leads a double life, a mask and wig the only shields that protect her reputation. Swashbuckling pirate Samael Delacost wants her cargo and her heart. But before he can be worthy of her love, he must exorcize the ghosts of his past. An irresistible connection binds them but will that be enough to convince Samael to turn his back on the sea, or for Esta to take a chance on happiness she doesn’t think she deserves?

The Lady and the Pirate continues The Wildecoast Saga, with popular The Lord and the Mermaid characters Nikolas Cosara and his wife Merielle featured in this latest instalment from Bernadette Rowley.

The Lady and the Pirate will be available from Smashwords and your favourite ebook retailer. It’s now available for preorder!
