2020 is Getting Away!

I got reflective yesterday, after attending an entrepreneur’s summit on Tuesday and then listening to a podcast on Wednesday. The topics of the two events were very different. And I got to thinking…which is more important? That you make the most of all your opportunities and build an empire? Or that you live every day, so you’ll be content at the end? That you understand the world and yourself and your place within that mechanism?

I suspect the answer is somewhere in between those positions. None of us can live every day to the fullest. We just aren’t capable of it. We are going to let ourselves down. And sometimes you have to cut yourself some slack. Living at 100% is exhausting. And that’s how I felt after the entrepreneur training.

The podcast was presented by a psychologist and philosopher – he examines human behaviour. Sometimes his presentations make me uncomfortable. I’m a little too quick to judge and find myself wanting. It all comes down to the way you listen and how much you take into your life.

I don’t want to judge either of these events. Both had the potential to make me uncomfortable and I struggled to understand some concepts. One thing they had in common was the intensity of the speakers. Truthfully, I can be pretty intense, but those guys take it to the next level.

It’s helpful to be out of your comfort zone from time to time and I’m often out of mine. I think that’s what being an introvert is. You’re only comfy when you’re in a pretty narrow space – like a cat – perhaps that’s why I love cats so much. I can instantly connect and relate to them. But if I stay in my comfort zone, I don’t go to work, make money or perhaps even write books. I miss out on all sorts of opportunities.

Now, I’m not going to say ‘yes’ to every opportunity that comes along because that will send me crazy. But I can, every so often, open myself to new ideas that are offered, and embrace them. That’s what the new year is about, and I love that.

2020 is getting away from us so go out there and say ‘yes’ to something today.

If you wish to share something new you’ve tackled this year, and the outcome, please post in the comments.

Happy New Year

The Master and the Sorceress is LIVE!

I hope this countdown series has given you an insight into the creation of The Master and the Sorceress. It was previously published with a different cover – equally beautiful – but the model is the same. She embodies Katrine and I wrote the story with her in mind.

Last of all. Timelines are important to any story, especially a series. The Master and the Sorceress occurs two months after The Lady and the Pirate, and covers a period of almost seven months. The story takes place in Costa, a town south of Wildecoast, on the way to Brightcastle, in Brightcastle and in Wildecoast. Sign up to my newsletter for a FREE map of Thorius

TWO Days until the Release of The Master and the Sorceress!

Both Vard and Alecia (Princess Avenger and Princess in Exile) have cameo appearances in The Master and the Sorceress but not together. The witch, Hetty, is Katrine’s mentor and she has a supporting role to play in book 7 as well. One thing I love doing is revisiting earlier characters in later books, so you get a chance to see what they’ve been up to. That will continue in book 8.

THREE Days until the Release of The Master and the Sorceress!

Night hounds are introduced to the Queenmakers Saga in this volume. They are large, scary beasts with red eyes and retractable hind claws like cats. These creatures are drawn to Katrine’s magic but there is more to them than meets the eye.

I used this photo of a rottweiler to create the night hound concept and think it works well. It’s amazing how a relatively innocent family pet can emerge a terrifying beast after some tweaking. Check out the cover.

Another creature which makes its debut appearance in this book is the dragon. That’s all I’m going to say about it because…spoilers.

FOUR Days until the Release of The Master and the Sorceress!

The Lady and the Pirate was the springboard for Katrine’s story. She was so feisty and capable and yet vulnerable. I knew she would make a great heroine.

But who could stand up to a strong and beautiful sorceress? The hero turned out to be a master goldsmith, James Tomel. He is the oldest of seven boys and was expected to take on his family’s farm. However, from a young age, James knew he would never be able to do that and turned to working with gold. He actually made the chain mail choker worn by Queen Adriana when she visited Brightcastle in Princess Avenger– book 1.

But James harbors another secret career and this causes friction between himself and Katrine. James and Katrine are opposites – one a wild and impulsive spirit who wields forbidden magic, the other a pillar of the community who craves order and control. I hope you enjoy their journey.

FIVE Days until the Release of The Master and the Sorceress!

Once there was a young noble woman called Katrine Aranati, who was so much more than first appearances would indicate. She came from a farming family south of the king’s seat of Wildecoast in Thorius. Katrine had an older sister, Esta, who often disregarded her but still expected her to help when she was in a crisis.

Katrine’s story begins in The Lady and the Pirate, as the two sisters come face to face with the Singing Pirate on the high seas. The ladies are disguised and carrying on a clandestine operation as smugglers to aid their failing farming estate. Katrine, as Lady Star, hurls a few fireballs his way and chases him and his elven allies off her ship.

Being a witch makes Katrine stand out more than she would like, and Esta doesn’t understand. She is afflicted with melancholy which is only made worse when she has a magical encounter in the Crystal Cave. You can read all about Katrine’s adventures and Esta’s love affair in The Lady and the Pirate. It’s on special for 99 cents for the next three days!

Pre-Order The Master and the Sorceress!!

The Master and the Sorceress release date is January 7th but you can pre-order now! Available only on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.

Here’s the blurb:

A DESPERATE SORCERESS

Katrine Aranati no longer knows how to deal with the woman she has become. She runs headlong into a man whose heart’s desire is order and control.

A MASTER JEWELER

James Tomel is outwardly a pillar of society, but he hides more than one secret. His life plan has no room for a dangerous liaison with a reckless stranger.

When they are thrown together on a trip to Brightcastle, fierce creatures from legend pursue them, but even more perilous are the feelings swirling between them. As their hearts and bodies come together, one will flee while the other demands an accounting.

The Master and the Sorceress is the seventh book in the epic Queenmakers Saga, combining the sweeping high fantasy world of Thorius with sizzling romance. If you like magic, danger and mythical creatures, wrapped up in an ‘opposites attract’ love story, you’ll adore The Master and the Sorceress.

Available on Amazon and FREE on Kindle Unlimited.

Merry Christmas!
